What is the Lightning Network?
The Lightning Network (LN) is a layer of technology built on top of a blockchain, and so is often referred to as 'Layer 2' for this reason.
A key objective of Lightning is to offer near instant blockchain transactions at very low costs and high volume.
The Lightning Network can rapidly scale the number of transactions a blockchain can process per second, and makes transmission of very low value transactions possible.
